Beulah May

Beulah May (1883 - 1959) was active/lived in California, Kansas.  Beulah May is known for Sculptor, illustrator, painter, writer.

Beulah May was born in Hiawatha, KS on June 24, 1883. May studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Art Institute of Chicago under Lorado Taft, and with Wm M. Chase and Charles Grafly. She was active as an artist in Santa Ana from 1908, joined the art faculty at UC in 1921, and after 1924 managed an orange ranch. She was the author and illustrator of Buccaneer's Gold (1935) and Cuentos de California (1937) plus several books of poetry. May died in Los Angeles on Aug. 7, 1959.

Exh: Calif. Art Club, 1916-26; Laguna Beach AA, 1924; Chamber of Commerce (LA), 1924; Sculptors Guild (LA), 1925.

Works held in Public Places: Bowers Museum (Santa Ana).
